Chers et chères collègues et ami.es,

C’est avec grande fierté que je me joins au comité organisateur local (LOC) pour vous inviter à participer au 31^e Congrès de l’International Society for Forensic Genetics (ISFG) qui se tiendra à Montréal du 17 au 21 août 2026.

Montréal, ville francophone la plus importante d’Amérique du Nord, est riche de ses origines européennes, mais aussi de la culture des peuples autochtones qui occupaient déjà le territoire avant la colonisation. La rencontre des cultures est d’ailleurs au cœur de ce qui distingue les Québécois comme un peuple ouvert sur la diversité. Notre joie de vivre et notre gastronomie sauront vite vous charmer! D’autant plus que la ville regorge d’activités culturelles et sportives qu’il fait bon découvrir en saison estivale.

Au-delà de ce riche héritage culturel, Montréal est un heureux mélange de savoirs et d’innovation. Elle se démarque aussi en matière de sciences judiciaires. Lors de sa création en 1914, le Laboratoire de sciences judiciaires et de médecine légale (LSJML) du Québec était le tout premier laboratoire médico-légal en Amérique du Nord. Saviez-vous que des dignitaires du FBI sont venus visiter notre laboratoire vers 1929 dans le but de mettre sur pieds leur propre laboratoire? Notre fondateur, Dr. Wilfrid Derome, ayant étudié en France avant d’implanter la médecine légale en Amérique du Nord, nous sommes fiers de notre culture où se croisent les influences européennes et nord-américaines. Notre comité organisateur s’affaire à vous préparer un congrès dont le contenu sera à la hauteur de vos attentes.

Venez découvrir ou redécouvrir la métropole québécoise en notre compagnie à l’occasion du prochain congrès de l’ISFG! Nous vous encourageons à participer en grand nombre en venant à la rencontre de vos collègues pour échanger avec eux sur les sujets qui nous passionnent. C’est un rendez-vous en août 2026 au Canada!

Dear colleagues and friends,

It is with great pride that I join the local organizing committee (LOC) to invite you to the 31^st Congress of the International Society for Forensic Genetics (ISFG), to be held in Montreal from August 17^th to 21^st, 2026.

As the major French-speaking city in North America, Montréal is rich in its European origins, but also in the culture of the aboriginal peoples who occupied the territory even before colonization. The meeting of cultures is at the heart of what makes Quebecers open to diversity. Our “joie de vivre” and gastronomy are sure to charm you! Even more, the city abounds in cultural and sporting activities that are a joy to discover in the summer months.

Beyond this rich cultural heritage, Montréal is a happy blend of knowledge and innovation. It also stands out in the field of forensic science. Quebec's Laboratoire de sciences judiciaires et de médecine légale (LSJML) was the very first forensic laboratory to be established in North America, back in 1914. Did you know that FBI dignitaries visited our laboratory around 1929 with the aim of setting up the FBI laboratory? As our founder, Dr Wilfrid Derome, studied in France to bring forensic medicine to North America, we are proud of our rich culture, both European and American. Our local organizing committee is hard at work preparing a congress with content that will live up to your expectations.

Come and discover or rediscover the Québec metropolis with us at the next ISFG congress! We encourage you to attend in large numbers, so you can meet your colleagues and exchange ideas with them on the subjects we're all passionate about.

Organizer

The International Society for Forensic Genetics is an international association promoting scientific knowledge in the field of genetic markers analyzed for forensic purposes. The ISFG has been founded in 1968 and represents more than 1100 members from over 60 countries. Regular meetings are held at a regional and international level. Scientific recommendations on relevant forensic genetic issues are developed and published by expert commissions of the ISFG.

The International Society for Forensic Genetics – ISFG aims to promote scientific knowledge in the field of genetic markers as applied to forensic science. This is mainly being achieved through regular meetings of either regional or international nature, our journal Forensic Science International: Genetics and the work of our expert DNA commissions. Check the publications page for access to recent international congress proceedings and scientific recommendations by the ISFG. These publications can be accessed openly.

Scientists with interest in forensic genetics who want to join the ISFG may click here to apply for membership.

ISFG membership includes free access to the online editions of Forensic Science International: Genetics. Please log in to read and download articles via the section reserved for members. ISFG members have also access to the workshop presentations and lectures of invited speakers at the most recent ISFG congresses.
